Entertainment
In addition to retail, more entertainment venues
should be woven into Eastwood. As of this writing,
additional state-of-theart theater space is being
contemplated for the multiplex cinema. New restaurants
and theater space will solidify Eastwood’s
place as one of the most popular movie and dining
destinations in the state; help support their
restaurants and retailers; and potentially widen
the trade area from which Eastwood draws.
The DDA should discuss
potential relocation with the Boarshead Theater
if expansion opportunities are not available in
Downtown Lansing. Although ideally this institution
should remain Downtown, it would be better to
retain the theatre in the metro area rather than
lose it to another location in the region, such
as Eaton Rapids, as was recently proposed. Added
entertainment also helps provide opportunities
for entertainment-related retail stores such as
Disney, Tower/Virgin Records, GameWorks, and various
types of “edu-tainment,” such as museum,
science, and game stores, and theme restaurants.
