CIVIC AREA
Development of the intersection of Wood Road and
Sam’s Way should focus on civic uses. A
Township hall, library, fire station, and community
center should be grouped at this location to resemble
a town commons, with buildings bracketing the
intersection, minimal setbacks (e.g. set close
to the sidewalk rather than separated by a lawn
or parking lot), and provision of generous pedestrian
amenities. A community open space should also
be included. The Civic Area should be well connected
by bike and walking paths to the Medical Campus
and to Eastwood via well appointed sidewalks.
Improvements
along Wood Road, including street widening and
installation of an upgraded storm sewer system
and expanded water system, will open this area
to additional development. Future development
should consist mostly of medium-density residential
and should continue the village main street style,
with generous pedestrian space, shallow building
setbacks, varied architectural styles, and well
defined corners and street edges. Streetscape
improvements should occur concurrently with development.
